The United States tried to continue nationalism without communism. We had the foreign policy of containment, trying to keep everything in its place. We tried not to get into anymore separate wars and to stay neutral. We developed the Marshall plan to restore the economic crisis in Western Europe after the Soviet Union invaded. We had very stronge beliefs of containment because we didnt nmeed anymore economic problems nor social problems.

Could the Cold War still be going on today?

In my opinion I believe that yes we are still in minor Cold War. We don't Quite get along with one enough due to the fact of our past. We don't like Communism and til this day we have fear of it coming back and taking over. We just formally signed a treaty for no more bombing to keep things clam as of now. Were not sure how long it may last. The U.S. is going through economic problems as it is but were trying to make it better. the Cold war is very tricky and tough to comprehend.
Cuban Missile Crisis
September 1962, is when the United states discovered that the Soviet union had begun building nuclear missile sites in Cuba. In that early October American Spy planes(U-2's) to produce pictures. Fidel Castro brought more tension to the United States by the fact that he declared himself communist and welcomed aid from the Soviet union. The U.S. was suspicious of Castor's intentions , Cuba worsened by Castro's Government.

Civil War in China brings Cold War tension
Civil War begins to over take China,Our foreign policy was containment, but the spread of communism was wanting to take over China, welcoming the domino theory. Quickly after a domino gets stood one will stand after, then when one tends to fall all will fall after. The U.S. Defended the Nationalists and corrupt Nationalist leaders flee to Tawain. America reacts to Communist take- over. The attempt of containment failed and the U.S. "lost" China.
U-2 Incident
The U-2 planes were used for making secret flights over the soviet union to take pictures. The soviet union quickly caught on to our U-2 Planes. Eisenhower wanted to discontinue U-2's to allow for negotiations with Khrushchev. But Francis Gary Powers made on last U-2 flight on May 1, 1960. Powers got shot down by a Soviet pilot and was taken prisoner. it was a very sticky situation because they weren't sure what could potentially happen to them. but it brought up higher risks with the Soviet Union.
